Peace, Beauty, Terror, Panic and Empathy?

November 10, 2021

You know what gets me thinking…has me contemplating?

Lying on your back on a clear night and looking up at the stars. This is what gets my mind ticking over. Thinking, contemplating, and questioning our existence. When you look out into the universe it gives you a sense of smallness, how small and insignificant we are, it makes you wonder how the hell did this all come about? Was there a start somewhere? How do we exist? Do others exist as well?

Surely with the size of the universe, (the observable size is 93 billion light-years), you’d have to think that there has got to be other planets with life, other solar systems with conditions to support life.

While you look above on a clear night, staring into the stars, it is a thing of beauty with vast uncertainty, in one way it brings calmness…calmness from a beautiful expanse that helps release any problems you are facing on earth. On the other hand, it brings confusion…confusion of what is out there? What are we here on earth for? It reflects somewhat our insignificance and unknown existence. Looking up into a clear sky can bring all the feelings of peace, beauty, panic, and even terror.

This brings me to this.

When you look at most things they can be of peace, beauty, and panic, terror. Look at a river for instance. In an evening sunset, the calmness of water reflecting the sun is something of pure beauty and calming peace. At the same time, the boy who can’t swim and falls into this beauty has now created the scene of panic and terror.

There are many things out there like this, the most common though is us. Human Beings. We can be such noble creatures or such terrorising creatures. Be wary, for everything of beauty there is an underlining terror. On the other hand also be aware, that when we see terror know that this can also be a chance to embrace beauty.

We see the absolute best in people, we also see the absolute worse. And the thing is this, everyone has bad days, keep this in perspective, if you see someone having a bad day, being a dick, and creating terror and panic for you, please realise that there is also good in this person, much of the time it is how we see it and approach it.

And this is why the most important thing we need to show to each and every person is empathy. Empathy allows us to understand, appreciate, and most of communicate the peace, beauty, terror, and panic that all humans are capable of.
