Progress Doesn’t Require Perfection…It Requires Consistency.

This is nothing new and I have said it plenty of times before when it comes to the strength of the result consistency is key. The more consistent people are, the better their results will be.
With consistency being a strong indicator for results the next question to ask is how much exact adherence is needed for results? The answer may surprise you as you do not need to be “perfect” to see positive changes.
Precision Nutrition has in recent times published a study where they looked at 1000 nutrition clients over a 12 month period, analyzing the year’s worth of data to find out how much effort it really takes to make meaningful change—to your body, your health, and even how you feel about yourself.
In one instance the results are not that surprising, the people with the highest consistency in adhering to the diet/lifestyle guidelines had the most significant results. This is no surprise.
The surprising thing that the study found was that there are still positive results gained from only 40% adherence, Being consistent 40% of the time resulted in long-term weight loss, improved health, and a better lifestyle.
The takeaway from this study shows that the stronger your effort the better the results will be. However, this effort doesn’t need to be perfect, some effort will still result in positive changes, more effort will result in even better positive changes and the most effort will be rewarded with the best changes.
And where does this effort come from? It comes from your consistent actions…consistency is key!!
The great news is the results will still be there with a few slip-ups here and there, even though the best results come from 80% adherence rates, this study highlights results are still possible at 40% adherence.
For people trying to improve their health and wellbeing, the thing to learn in all of this is perfection isn’t the goal. The goal is consistent action, if there are a few slip-ups here and there it will not be a disaster, this isn’t the time to beat yourself up and quit, it is time to understand that everyone slips up at times and the overall goal is to be as consistent as possible!!
