Why Thinking 2022 Will Automatically Be Better Than 2021, Is The Wrong Mindset.
January 1, 2022
So here we are, the 1st January…for some people they think that the changing of the day, the dawn of the New Year that everything will change, that everything will be different. What a load of bullshit this is, nothing changes, it’s a sunset followed by sunrise, but for some reason, our society puts a massive emphasis on things being different with the New Year.
It’s like good riddance 2021, bring on 2022. This will be my year.
This seems to be the mindset of the majority. A mindset of a change of year means a change of circumstances, a change of fortune.
As a New Year rises so does optimism for many people. It can be false optimism as it comes from a mindset that due to the date clicking over to a new beginning so will our lives.
The year may change, our lives won’t automatically do the same.
What changes will be up to you? And if you focus on the right things, then yes 2022 will be better for you. Like anything though, it will take effort and consistency to ensure that 2022 is a fruitful year.
Long-term goals are great, these goals are the end result, not the focus. The focus is on daily actions and habits. It isn’t the mindset of 2022 is my year, it is the mindset of today I will win the day, today I will do what I need to do so I am heading towards my goals.
Our daily actions can help shape our future and create a past that we are fond of looking back at. The truth though is the only way we can influence our future is what we do in each moment of each day. This is where our focus needs to be. Nowhere else.
When the New Year rolls around, people will have many goals in their minds.
Which is great, there is the drive to achieve. The problem though is. people only focus on the goals. The focus should be on the processes and actions to take you towards that goal, to narrow your focus, And funnel your behaviours to purposeful and specific daily action.
The goal is to have a big plan and break it down into small steps. If you genuinely care about your goal you’ll focus on the processes and systems needed to reach it.
Things only change in our lives by controlling what we can control, putting effort in where effort needs to be, being consistent in this control and effort. That’s the change maker, not a calendar.
