Action Brings Motivation – The Do Something Principle
February 6, 2022
“Action isn’t just the effect of motivation; it’s also the cause of it” – Mark Manson.
Traditionally it would be viewed that most commit to action if they feel a certain level of motivation. It is the thinking that motivation comes from emotional inspiration.
A chain reaction that looks like this: EMOTIONAL INSPIRATION – MOTIVATION – ACTION
This is flawed though!!
If you lack the motivation to make an important change in your life then the above continuum is problematic (although the most common).
If we lack motivation then nothing will happen.
We need to make it happen in the absence of motivation (also called setting routines). If motivation is lacking then do something – anything that will help you move forward to an important change in your life.
As Manson said – “Action isn’t the effect of motivation, it’s also the cause of it” this will help us develop the mindset of developing this following chain reaction:
ACTION – INSPIRATION – MOTIVATION
This is the DO SOMETHING principle!!
By taking action (do something) the reaction to this is inspiration, leading to oneself motivation. The “do something” principle not only helps overcome procrastination, but it also is the process by which we adopt new values and valuable routines.
