I Want To Share A Few Lessons I Have Learned.
June 1, 2022
A quick and important read today. It is about a few important lessons I have learned in my time in the fitness industry. Hope this can help you.
1. Everyone, and I mean everyone has some sort of insecurity or issue they are fighting through. Take a look around the gym, find the person that seems to have all of their shit together, they are in great shape and seem to have absolutely no worry in the World. That person, like every person, is battling insecurity.
2. Your number one fitness goal should be health. I am not saying that you shouldn’t have performance goals, you definitely should. Health is the most important fitness outcome though. Unfortunately with the portrayal in popular media what we are presented as fit is sometimes anything but healthy.
3. Performance goals help with weight loss. This one I have come to appreciate over the last 15 years. When people have a specific performance goal their training becomes more focused and consistent. When these focused efforts increase so will the results.
4. There is no one best repetition scheme for gaining muscle. For years, it has been promoted that you need to be training between the 8-12 rep zone for muscle hypertrophy. This isn’t exactly true, from experience and recent scientific studies it has been shown that muscle hypertrophy can be achieved through various rep ranges.
5. The gimmicks will never replace the basic movement patterns. The fitness industry is full of bullshit gimmicks. A device, exercise, or pill that promises amazing results…usually unrealistic results, and people buy into this, with their time and normally with their wallets. The truth though, gimmicks will never replace hard work and the 5 basic human movement patterns of Squat, Hinge, Push, Pull, and Carry.
