What is Metabolic Training? Is it Beneficial?
May 25, 2022
A question I am always asked is “What is Metabolic Training?”
The popularity and rise of this training method has grown with the rise of CrossFit. While CrossFit utilises Metabolic Training as one of its main training modalities we also need to be aware that metabolic training is not only CrossFit. Metabolic Training is the core method used by the majority of training franchises out there. The F45’s, Orange Theory’s, Fitstop’s, and BodyFit’s of this world all use the Metabolic Training methodology.
There must be a reason why!!
At Hybrid Fitness Training we also use Metabolic Training as one of our foundational principles for our group classes.
Let me answer the question, “What is Metabolic Training?”
The simplest definition of Metabolic Training is combining resistance training (strength) with cardiovascular training in the one session. Maximising time you spend exercising and combining this with the intensity of exercise.
The benefits are many.
Metabolic Training forces you:
– to work your total body
– to work all of your energy systems
– to expend more calories per unit of time
– not only to burn fat but also to increase lean body tissue simultaneously.
And finally, one of the greatest benefits is the high variance of exercises that can be used. Whilst we stick to session templates, metabolic training allows for a huge variety of exercises and movements, meaning it helps to keep the sessions different and exciting. Helping you stay motivated and looking forward to the challenges presented.
