REVERSE THE AGING PROCESS

November 15, 2022

Here is the thing. An important thing. If you are over the age of 30 and not doing resistance (strength) training, you have begun to lose muscle and invite an accelerated rate of aging.

Here is another thing. Another important thing. Physical strength is an excellent predictor of longevity. Studies have found (and more and more studies are finding) that people with weak muscle or low muscle mass have a greater risk of dying than people with normal or greater muscle strength.

It blows my mind why people are not strength training. I think that as research continues over the years, there will be even greater reasons to strength train and exercise in general. The magic pill is exercise, especially resistance exercise. This is going to become more and more evident as more research is uncovered.

Aging is a bummer we all face. Every day I wish I could be out on that footy field; I get that we all age. However, resistance training is a fountain of youth. It is the only form of exercise that will postpone loss of muscle mass, bone density, joint mobility, and strength. Also, resistance training makes you look younger, helping you to have less body fat and more body-firming muscle.

Including resistance training, at least three times per week will reverse the loss of muscle and allow you to carry out your daily activities right up to your twilight years.

The other option? Avoiding resistance training and letting your muscle waste away will make even the simplest tasks very difficult. Climbing a flight of stairs and getting in and out of a seat will all become too much. And at worse, a decrease in muscle mass and strength may result in falls, a loss of independence, and possibly premature death.

I guess that’s why we have the saying, “move it or lose it.”
