Your Number One Fitness Goal Should be…

Health.
This seems like an obvious answer. It is common that it isn’t a high priority though when people are setting goals around Fitness. Why? Many people don’t start their fitness journey with health necessarily in mind. They start with aesthetic goals (wanting to look a certain way), scale goals (wanting to weigh a certain weight), or performance goals (attaining a certain level of competence in a given sport or fitness-related genre).
Most people will take the view there is no direct issue with any of these goals. Yes, they are all goals that can lead to better health, however, they can also be the opposite. In pursuit of aesthetic, scale, or performance goals people can chase these goals to the detriment of health. What started out as new and positive training and lifestyle habits can lead to behaviours and actions that are anything but healthy.
Fitness training is the best way to improve health, there is no argument against this, however, fitness training can become unhealthy if there becomes an obsession. A win at all cost type mentality towards aesthetic, scale, or performance goals.
In my opinion, this is why the number one goal for fitness is health.
Ask yourself, is my training routine and lifestyle habits leading to better health? I still recommend all types of goals, the path to these goals though is through health. Your training and lifestyle should positively impact the five pillars of health that we promote at HFT.
Fitness and physical training that is having a positive impact on your nutrition, sleep, stress, relationships, and mindset.
This is why the number one fitness goal is health. Long-term health promoting a great quality of life for your whole life.
