Do not wait for Motivation…Create Motivation; Here’s How

“Action isn’t just the effect of motivation; it’s also the cause of it” – Mark Manson
After reading Mark Manson’s “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F#%k” his ‘Do Something’ principle is a crucial lesson in how to get things done. How to achieve things through action and not waiting for inspiration and motivation.
Most people only commit to action if we feel a certain level of motivation. The motivation comes from emotional inspiration. Which gives us the equation of:
EMOTIONAL INSPIRATION – MOTIVATION – ACTION
If you lack motivation to make an important change in your life then the above continuum is flawed (although the most common). If we lack motivation then nothing will happen. We need to make it happen in the absence of motivation (also called setting routines). If motivation is lacking then do something – anything that will help you move forward to important change in your life.
As Manson said – “Action isn’t the effect of motivation, it’s also the cause of it”. Action will help us develop the mindset of developing this chain reaction:
ACTION – INSPIRATION – MOTIVATION
By taking action (do something) the reaction to this is inspiration leading to oneself motivation. The “do something” principle not only helps overcoming procrastination, it also is the process by which we adopt new values and valuable routines.
